Perhaps the hardest things about finding good products which do not contain any harmful additives, is just finding the time to read the labels. This part of our website has been developed to try to make it easy for you to find quality products which do not contain any harmful additives.
The products listed here have been included because they appear not to contain any of the most concerning food additives which are commonly linked to problems, or which are banned in other countries. The information about each product has been taken in good faith, direct from the manufacturers’ label, so we are relying on them to tell us the truth!
Please note that the products listed here have only been assessed in relation to their additive content, and this list does not rate any other nutritional considerations such as fat, salt, sugar or fibre content. Just because a product is on our list, does not mean necessarily that it is a good choice nutritionally. For example, our list will contain products such as ice-cream, biscuits and even lollies – so long as they do not contain any harmful additives.
Overall , as a nation, Australians eat far too much processed packaged foods, and we should all being trying to reduce our dependence on these convenience items and returning more to eating real, wholesome, nutritious food. However, whilst in an ideal world, we would all be eating organic produce and no processed foods, in the real world it is a fact that many people are going to continue to choose processed and packaged foods as a key component of today’s hectic pace. Our aim in providing this product list is to at least enable you to select packaged food which, even if not the best choice nutritionally, at least does not contain additives which are known to be harmful.

HIDDEN / UNLISTED ADDITIVES
There are some additives which are often present in our foods but not declared on the labels quite legally, because of loopholes in our existing legislation. The most common example of this is the use of harmful antioxidants in products containing oil which help to stop the oil going off. For this reason it is possible that some products contained on this list MAY still contain additives we don’t know about.
This list has been developed in good faith as a helpful starting point to assist you to select better products. We welcome and need your assistance and feedback in building the list and keeping it current.
